I need a multi cars garage.  How to get it?

In our car-centric culture, garages for multi cars have become indispensable. Over the decades, garages have evolved from simple structures where you park your car into integral, and sometimes elaborate parts of the home. Below we look at options for building a new garage, some popular additions, and garage trends.

Building a Garage

These days, garages are a necessity for home buyers. From small 1-car detached garages to standalone structures with multiple bays for cars, trucks, boats, RVs, and other vehicles, garages can be whatever you want them to be.

If your home does not have a garage, adding one is a significant investment. The average cost for a newly built, basic garage is over $23,000. Renovating a garage will also set you back a decent amount – almost $11,000.

Custom Garages

One option for adding a garage to your home is a custom-built garage. Like a custom home, what you include in your custom garage is limited only to your budget and your imagination. The average costs for two types of custom garages are outlined below.

  • Two car garage — Constructing a standard two-car garage addition to your home costs around $58,000 (about $86/ SF)
  • Four car garage — These larger garages are becoming more common. On larger structures like these, price per SF decreases to as little as $60/ SF. For a structure of this size, you could still spend over $85,000.

Prefabricated Garages

For those who want to save a little money on their multiple-car garage, prefabricated (or prefab) structures may be a better choice. Built at a factory in sections, then transported to your homesite, the sections are then assembled onsite. The options for prefab garages run the gamut from single-bay buildings to larger structures which accommodate multiple vehicles.

Depending on how you envision your multiple car garage, there are a number of additions that you may need. For example, if you want your garage to include living space, such as an apartment, office, or rec room, you need to consider things like insulation, plumbing, climate control, ventilation, windows, doors, and lighting. If you’re planning a more utilitarian garage with no living space, you may still want premium upgrades like a garage lift.
